Engineering surveying

The process involves precise data collection, mapping and analysis to support design, construction and safety compliance.

Site and Topographic Survey

  • Capture existing ground levels, track alignments, and surrounding infrastructure.
  • Identify natural and man-made features that may impact design and construction.
  • Use of 3D Laser Scanner and 1″ Total Stations for high accuracy data capture and setout.

Construction Phase Surveying

  • Conduct all setouts and works as executed surveys throughout the construction phase.

Track Monitoring

  • Monitor track movement throughout excavations, usually for UAX services.
  • Monitoring reports are then provided to the principal to determine the track movement.

Control Network Establishment

  • Set up a stable and accurate geodetic control network for ongoing construction works.
  • Use high-precision benchmarks for consistent reference throughout the project.

Accessibility and Public Safety Considerations

  • Ensure survey data supports compliance with accessibility regulations and gradients.

As-Built Survey & Verification

  • Verify that construction matches design specifications.
  • Update final records to reflect changes for future maintenance and operational  needs.
Proud Award Recipients

In 2022, TSS won two major awards for the Victoria Cross ISD metro station project:  Winning Project for Infrastructure & Construction and the prestigious Sir Thomas Mitchell Award for Excellence in Surveying and Spatial Information.

Precise model of the footbridge created by our scanning team

Arenco, a long-term client, has engaged TSS for several years consistently entrusting us with multiple station upgrades which we completed concurrently over some years.

Project Type: Civil & Engineering

Details:  The NSW Government’s Transport Access Program provides for the upgrade of several stations to facilitate safe and accessible rail infrastructure.

The Medlow Bath project is nearing completion and includes a new 105m long curved pedestrian bridge across the Great Western Highway, a new lift and upgraded stairs.

Total Solution: The survey tasks undertaken included preparing a detailed model of the project, engineering surveying of surrounding civil works and rail monitoring. The bridge was installed in 6 individual segments supported by our spatial surveying expertise.

Victoria Cross & Gadigal Metro Stations | Sydney

TSS was the Principal Surveyor for one of Australia’s most expansive transport undertakings.  Despite the project’s extraordinary size and complexity, our team skillfully managed all survey requirements.

Project Type:  Construction & Civil

Details:  The Integrated Station Development project (ISD) project spans over 15,000m2 with multiple live work zones and each with unique demands.

The Pitt Street ISD includes a 250m-long underground station and above the station sit retail and commercial facilities.

Total Solution:  Our registered surveyors, monitoring specialists and 3D scanning experts have skillfully managed daily survey requirements, encompassing everything from in-ground services to 3D scanning for final certifications and reporting.

Homebush Active Transport Network | NSW

The TfNSW Active Transport Strategy aims to promote walking and cycling by delivering better-connected spaces.

Project Type:  Cadastral & Geospatial

Details:  We were engaged by Conybeare Morrison to deliver topographical surveying services for a 4km section of the proposed cycle path in Homebush NSW.

Total Solution:  Undertook all survey works including a full topographical survey for the proposed cycle path, survey control network, utilities investigation, boundary definition and preservation of survey infrastructure.

Blackheath Station | nSW

Arenco, a long-term client, engaged us to work on multiple station upgrades concurrently.

Project Type: Civil & Engineering

Details:  One of a number of station projects that form part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program.

Total Solution:  Survey tasks included the station upgrade package, lift shaft construction, surrounding civil works, and rail monitoring.

Chullora Train Depot | NSW

TSS was engaged to reinstate the parcel boundaries and scan the entirety of the building.

Project Type: Scanning

Details:  With a building footprint of 30,000m2, this project required the full digitisation of part of the existing building complex of the train depot.

Total Solution:  Our scanning team created a Revit Model utilising cutting-edge technology to scan the building internally and externally.  A 3D model of external features was also provided to facilitate design for future external works in the vicinity.
